Cal Ripken Baseball

Cal Ripken Baseball program is for ages 9–12. Cal Ripken Baseball is part of the Babe Ruth League and focuses on fun, skill development and competition, with opportunities to participate in state tournaments and beyond.

Divisions: Determined by player age on May 1st of the current y
• Minor (9–10 yrs): Focus on fundamentals, teamwork, and strategy

Our Goal:
• Teach fundamentals in a fun, age-appropriate environment while building confidence, teamwork and sportsmanship
• Serves as a starting point for competitive teams that grow and stay together as players move through Cal Ripken and into Babe Ruth

Commitment Expectations:

  1. Attend all practices and tournaments – whether on weeknights or weekends
  2. Players must listen, focus, work hard and have a positive attitude
  3. Coaches may play to win; equal playing time is not guaranteed.
  4. We will be hosting a 1day tournament on Friday, July 10th- all families will be required to volunteer
  5. Parents must support all costs and logistics (fees, uniforms, equipment, travel, meals). Cal Ripken baseball in Wahpeton is currently self-funded meaning the cost of the entire season is split between players on the team. Cost will vary by team based on the number of tournaments attended and games played. Estimated cost to play is between $250- $350
  6. Parents will also be required to volunteer throughout the season

Team Formation:
• Ideal team size: 12–15 players (team size is up to coach’s discretion)
• Team formation will be determined by coaches
• Tryouts will take place at the beginning of April – watch for email with date/location details
• Players may play up an age level but never down

We Need Volunteers:
• Coaches (usually parents) are essential to form teams. There may be an opportunity for a 9/10 combined team if there are enough kids. A coach and team manager are needed for this to happen. This team would operate independently, just as the other age groups are doing currently. Game and practice schedule, uniforms, sign up for tournaments, etc would be the responsibility of that team manager and/or coach.

Reminder:
• There are additional baseball opportunities for kids who are not ready for or do not want the commitment of Cal Ripken
o Wahpeton Parks & Rec offers morning skills and drills training (registration is currently open on the Park & Rec Website)
o Breckenridge hosts a 9/10 Twin Town baseball league that requires no travel (watch for more info to come on this).

Tryout Information Needed
